RE: How do I find my GVWR

The GVWR should be printed on the door sticker. It will either be on the driver's door or the post under the latch.

RE: Sway bar installation

I had a single friction bar on my 31' and went to a Dual Cam setup. Great improvment.

RE: Camper Door Dry Rotted

I had to rebuild mine. The wind got under the outter skin and ripped it off below the window. The entire center of my door was foam. I had to plane down the thickness as the only thing I found to reskin the door was some plastic shower stall material about 1/8" thick. It's better than new but took the better part of a day.

RE: 2500HD wheels

I've taken mine off many times since 97. I put them back on with a deepwell socket by hand. They feel like they click, I alway turn them till they "click" the second time. Never a problem. I even painted them and use them with my 19.5" wheels they look great and keep the threads clean.

RE: If bail out passes and works

It appears that were just delaying the financial fall of the United States of America. Congress spends more than it takes in, at least above the table. We are close to not being able to make the payments on Congressional debt.

RE: Want to switch the glass in the door....

If they are seperate and surrounded by plastic type ring that's held together with screws from the inside be careful. I had to rebuild the door due to replacing the outter skin with a thicker material. I had drawn all the screws down and was going from screw to screw tightening each a quarter turn to draw them down evenly. Well the glass cracked. The inside of the ring had embossments that appeared to be positive stops, which would prevent over tightening. Wrong.
I would place some putty type sealant under the ring around the edge and stop tightening as soon as the putty is compressed.

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

I found a bent spindle once using a straight edge against the axle and sticking out to the spindle end. Check top, bottom, front and rear.
Two opplisite corners sounds more like an alignment problem. Check with a string, from the center of the coupler to the same point on both front sides and then both rear sides. I had one nylon bushing in the spring eye wear thru once, werid tire wear made me go looking for a cause.

RE: Another EXTERNAL Generator Question: Use Gas Siphon Pump?

I use 3/8" OD clear plastic tubing for siphoning. I have a 100 gal tank in the truck and do a lot of siphoning and never have a problem. I can lift a full can and watch the gas drop back in the tubing to the level in the tank, then insert it into another can and lower it to restart the siphon. Simple and it works.

RE: Generator info please

I picked the Yamaha EF3000iSE because it has wheels. I use ramps and wheel it into the truck. When someone is handy we'll usually not mess with the ramps.
This winter I'll go to work on a remote start.

RE: Made it thru IKE

My Neice in League City just had a section of fence danagee, that she said needed replaced anyway. Getting power back will be the big problem, they have a gen so fuel will be a concern.
I was 20 mile north of Evansville, IN and Sunday the wind was 50 mph +/- and just wouldn't want to try double or triple that speed for 3 or 4 times the time frame. I hear a lot that rode it out say they won't do it again.

RE: hubs and drums getting very hot

If they still heat up with the plug disconnented, I'd look for tight bearings or bent spindles.

RE: weight distributing bars

I would start out with what you have. You can keep an eye out for a dual cam adaptor kit. The hooks for the cam, bolt on the end of the bars right in the same holes that the chain U-bolts use. I made this change a couple of years ago when I found the dual cam kit at a surplus shop. It's a lot better than the friction bar.

RE: My blow up boat - maiden voyage

I bought an alum boat and it leaked. I kinda thought it would with the holes that were in it. A "friends" wife gave me a T-shirt to go along with the boat. It had the following on it.
Titanic Swim Team
1912
What makes me mad is that I'm not sure if she was taking a shot at my boat or my age.

RE: Adding receiver hitch to 5er

search " Want to carry 600lbs on the back of a camper " and look at JJBIRISH post. A trailer like attachment that is considered an extenstion of your RV. It may be more to your liking than a reciever and trailer.

RE: 2800# on 3/4 ton?

Make sure to air the tires up to the max rating for the trip home. Your rear axle rating is the total capicity of the tires. I think this should be your biggest concern and 1st mod if needed. The tires will get it home but watch out once you start loading stuff. It's like going to a buffet, we can't stop till we're overloaded.
For the 200 mile home trip I agree that you need to have it fastened down and not strapped. You have to do it anyway. You may want to check for or add a sway bar or seperate air bags to the rear axle after addressing the tires.

RE: Winterizing

I unhook the line at the water tank that goes to the pump and stick it down in the antifreeze jug. Then just turn the pump on and it sucks it out of the jug.

A lot of left foot brakers out there and some of them rest that foot on the pedal. Not having a left foot means that I am not one of this breed.

RE: Engine lifespan - 454 & 460?

I have a 97 with 173,000 on it. Had to replace a intake manifold gasket. It's a work horse, last time on the scales the truck was at 10,000 lbs.
When I checked about getting a new truck this year I found out there are no more big blocks in GM's line up. Well then this one will have to do 300,000 plus. I don't want a diesel or a small block.
